A kinetic sculpture about chaotic motion. The linked stainless steel rotors revolve on one another and nearly mutually balance, setting up a slow 3D pendulum system that is unpredictable.

 

I design and build these pieces because I love the art of engineering, but also to stave off brain corrosion in retirement. This one required chipping rust off of a lot of calculus neurons, particularly those archiving double integration skills.
